Ethno Complex “Dasmia”: renewable energy as the most profitable investment for restaurants (Kyrgyzstan)

The cultural and ethnographic complex Dasmia has been a leader in the restaurant business for many years. As part of its complex it has the Khan-Tenir yurt, the largest yurt in Central Asia. It accommodates 800 seats to conduct events of any level and scale.

In 2016 a large solar system was installed at Khan-Tenir yurt, consisting of 12 solar collectors and two air-to-water heat pumps with a temperature control system. The system can heat an area of 1300 m2. It has a heat pump operating with coefficient of performance (COP) of 3.5. The system is capable of heating up to 4 tons of water per day, and providing heating and hot water to guests and staff of the complex. Due to the solar system installation, the facility is completely autonomous from the city's heating system. Additionally, floor insulation, energy efficient windows and LED lighting were installed to increase energy efficiency of the restaurant.

This project demonstrates that the restaurant business has an enormous potential to improve energy efficiency and to have a positive environmental impact, while aligning with the company’s profitability.

BENEFITS

The above energy efficiency measures allow the restaurant to save up to 211 MWh of energy per year (or 35% of the reference value), while reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by more than 36 tons annually.
