The National Development Strategy 2018–2040 names the tourist industry as one of its priority sectors since it is a potential source of economic growth in Kyrgyzstan.
A professional workforce is necessary for the development of the tourism sector. More than 15 universities in Kyrgyzstan offer education in "Tourism" and "Hospitality Management." The nation's potential in terms of tourism is influenced by education quality. It is crucial to construct welcoming, environmentally friendly tourist facilities and run them given the growing demand for sustainable tourism. The relevant expertise, skills, and competencies required by tourism professionals can be achieved by raising the standard and applicability of education.
Integrating the concepts of resource and energy efficiency, sustainable production and consumption, and tourism education are some of the goals of the PERETO project. The Academy of Tourism was among the first institutions to change its curriculum with the project's professional assistance. The Academy has been adopting a project management curriculum since September 2020 that combines the themes of resource and energy efficiency as well as sustainable consumption and production. On October 12 at 9:00 (Park Hotel, Ballroom), the Academy of Tourism and the PERETO project will host a round table discussion with the administration and professors of universities in Kyrgyzstan to discuss successful experiences and current trends in tourism education.
The event brings together international and local experts in energy and resource efficiency and tourism, representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Department of Tourism, universities, and businessperson that will strengthen teamwork between the academic and business sectors and better align tourism education with the market and technological demands.
The project experts are ready to offer full support and assistance for the structural and substantive modernization of university curricula and the real business needs in the tourism and hospitality industries.
The project's experts will deliver a guide that includes real-world examples of small and medium-sized businesses engaged in the tourist and HoReCa industries. These businesses already put energy and resource efficiency measures into place, lowering costs and adverse environmental effects with the help of PERETO. The training of the students will include a practical and in-depth examination of operational tourist facilities. The project's thematic publications will be helpful for teachers as well as aspiring tourism professionals.
