The PERETO Project announces a national contest for journalists and bloggers of Kyrgyzstan entitled Green Technologies – Sustainable Tourism. The contest is arranged as part of the Project “Promotion of Energy and Resource Efficiency in the Tourism Sector of Kyrgyzstan” (PERETO) implemented thanks to funding of the European Union SWITCH Asia Programme.
Contest goals
The contest aims to stimulate public discussions on the issue of tourism’s impact on the environment, and challenges and prospects of the energy security, resource saving, and sustainable development of small and medium enterprises in the tourism sector of Kyrgyzstan.
Contest participants
Authors of journalistic materials, irrespective of the media type, as well as bloggers that provided one or several materials are eligible to participate on the contest. Any given author is eligible to submit materials for several nominations: one material per one nomination.

The contest will accept works of journalists and bloggers created in any media format: materials in printed media outlets, news agencies, online platforms; video materials; photo coverage; data materials; longreads; infographics; radio programs and audio podcasts; publication in social media; investigative journalism
on the following topics:
- sustainable tourism and policy – creating an auspicious environment for the introduction of ERE and SCP practices in the tourism sector (challenges and opportunities, problems and solutions)
- tourism and SCP – sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices in the tourism sector of Kyrgyzstan (examples of, or ideas for, sustainable and successful tourism businesses in Kyrgyzstan; problems of the impact of tourism on the environment and effective solutions for the environment-sustaining tourism development)
- ERE in tourism – experience of the introduction of energy and resource efficiency (ERE) technologies in the tourism sector of Kyrgyzstan (successful examples and success stories; problems and challenges in introduction; how tourism can help with energy security of the country)
- environmental traveling – traveling and outdoors recreation examples and life hacks aimed at minimizing any environmental damage
- green financing and tourism development – development of new green financing instruments in Kyrgyzstan to introduce ERE and SCP practices (challenges, prospects; other countries’ experience; novel schemes of green financing developed specifically for Kyrgyzstan; impact of green financing on sustainable growth of small and medium enterprises in the tourism sector of Kyrgyzstan)
Contest submission deadlines and participation conditions
The contest will accept materials published between 1 March 2021 and 31 May 2021 inclusive. The texts published on social media and online platforms have to contain hashtags #PERETO #ПЭРЭТО #sustanabletourism #устойчивыйтуризм #УПП #SCP #ЭРЭ #ERE #зеленыетехнологии #greentechnologies #зеленаяэкономика #greeneconomy.
In order to participate in the contest, you have to fill out an online application form, attach your resume, indicate the nomination (in a PDF format for printed media and links for all other media types) and attach statistics of activity among readers (e.g.: screenshots from Google Analytics, Yandex Analytics, likes, reposts on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
Submission deadline – 15 June 2021 (by 18:00)
Preferences will be given to materials whose topics influenced an active discussion in the society and/or political decision making.
Contest results
The winners will be determined by a panel of judges consisting of members of the PERETO Project team, independent experts and project beneficiaries.
Contest results and winners announcement will take place on 30 June 2021.
Each nomination winner will receive the GRAND PRIZE of iPad Pro 12.9 in addition to other recognition and encouragement gifts and certificates from the project sponsors and partners.
