On March 28, 2023, PERETO held a policy dialogue meeting in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan, bringing together over 60 participants from the tourism and HoReCa sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities for introducing sustainable production and consumption of green technologies in Issyk-Kul.
The meeting was opened by Samat Shatmanov, Deputy Minister-Director of the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of careful use of energy resources in contributing to the sustainable development of tourism and positively affecting the preservation of the environment. He also highlighted the department's efforts to educate the population, including representatives of the tourism business, on the rational use of energy resources and how to apply this knowledge in practice.
Maksat Damir uulu, PERETO project manager, stated that the project's goal is to help reduce the negative impact of tourism on the environment and share best international practices for introducing green technologies in the tourism business. As the number of tourists coming to Kyrgyzstan continues to grow, the impact on the environment also increases.
Based on the results of the round table, a Resolution with recommendations and proposals of the participants on the development of sustainable tourism in the Issyk-Kul region will be developed and submitted to the Department of Tourism and the regional administration.
This policy dialogue meeting is part of PERETO's efforts to promote sustainable tourism in Kyrgyzstan and contribute to the country's overall sustainable development.
