A famous chaikhana in Kurshab, Kyrgyzstan, adopts simple energy efficient measures and gets more popular among visitors

Asatilla Sharipov’s chaikhana is located along the Osh-Bishkek highway in the village of Kurshab 40 km from Osh, Kyrgyzstan. The place was getting quite popular, which led to the decision to expand the area by constructing an adjacent building. Asatilla Sharipov wanted to build an energy and resource efficient building.

During construction, he used only energy-efficient materials - mineral wool and breathable construction film - to insulate the walls, floors and ceiling. It helped him to reduce heat loss by 25-30%, since the film could protect the walls from exposure to steam, moisture and wind.

Energy-saving windows were also installed inside the chaikhana to create an ideal microclimate and reduce the energy and heat loss by a noticeable 20-25%.

Chaikhana also expanded from six rooms to fourteen rooms, which were all equipped with modern amenities. Such expansion allowed to accomodate more guests that grew by 20-30%, which positively affected the profits of the business. It also contributed to the creation of new jobs: 4 workers were employed permanently and 8 more were hired as seasonal staff during warmer months.
